Jay and I began searching for a mountain home in Summit County, Colorado during the summer of 2021. Our lists of must-haves were a little different, but we figured we'd know the one when we saw it. And, sure enough, we did. On the other hand, our twin boys (9 years old at the time), thought we were absolutely crazy. To be fair, this home needed a vision. The finishes were beyond outdated, vinyl 'wood' paneling and ornate wallpaper covered many of the walls and the entire house smelled like moth balls. But the bones (and the mountain views!) were there, so we embraced the good and added lots of love, time, and our personal touches to make it what it is today.
We've already made countless memories with friends and family in our renovated mountain modern home. As much as we love it, we can't be there all the time so we also rent it on Airbnb so others can enjoy it as well!
The Living Room
Believe it or not, there were multiple offers on this home in the first few days. We won out though as we figured out what the owners wanted: to leave all their stuff. So these couches, the seven (yes, seven) toasters and so many other things were now ours. Let's just say this home was an onion with many, many layers.

Pool Table & Bar
We reworked everything from the floor to the ceiling (no asbestos, thank goodness!) in this room. I also designed and painted the mural inspired by the view from the deck. It took some time, but I really enjoyed creating it!

Kitchen & Dining
The kitchen perhaps had the biggest transformation: created a new layout, removed fluorescent lights, relocated the refrigerator, removed part of a wall and added a kitchen island.

The Bunkroom
We really wanted a bunkroom and the biggest bedroom was the best option. Taking advantage of an oddly placed sewer line just left of the window, we pushed back that part of the wall, giving us just enough length to fit two sets of built-in full beds back to back.

The Entrance
The 2nd floor used to be the main entrance of the home. The area near the new front door had a lot of drainage issues (think ice rink!) so we dug it out and removed the stairs to address the drainage and make enough space for a walkway. This also allowed us to create a walkway to the new hot tub and a large mudroom right inside the new front door.

Master Bathroom
Let's just say it was very orange in there. The bones were there though! The larger shower alone made a huge difference. We replaced all the trim & doors and got rid of the popcorn ceiling throughout the whole house, but it's most noticeable here as there were so many doors and trim in a small space. We also replaced the vanity, lighting, mirror and added a barn door to add privacy from the master.
