More about Denver's City Park Neighborhood

Style of Homes for Sale in City Park: Homes in City Park are predominantly original single-family homes and can vary quite a bit in cost based on which side and how close the home is to the park. The area boasts quite a collection of revitalized Denver Squares, Victorians and bungalow homes. A handful of new large and small condo and multi-family units have been popping up in the area, such as the new high rise residences call The Pinnacle at City Park South.

History of Denver's City Park: City Park is one of Denver's first parks and oldest public spaces. Inspired by English pastoral gardens and Central Park in New York City, Henry Meryweather designed the original park in 1882. Many of the original aspects including roads and walkways still exist today. After the turn-of-the-century, City Park benefitted from Denver's investment in the nation's City Beautiful movement. During this period, many of the existing sculptures were added, including the sculptures that mark the park entrances.  In recent years, City Park has seen a noticeable reinvestment, much of which was brought on by the 2001 City Park Master Plan, titled “Revitalizing the Legacy of City Park.” This revitalization brought City Park back to its original reputation as one of Denver's prettiest parks.

Events at City Park

  • City Park Jazz - Stop by City Park on any given Sunday summer evening and you'll be blown away by the energy and attendance of this longtime event.  Hosted at the City Park Pavilion, Denver residents both near and far come for the music and the camaraderie.
  • Boo at the Zoo - For over 30 years, adults and kids have attended this unique event at the Denver Zoo dressed in full costume.
  • City Park Farmer's Market - Located at East Colfax and Columbine St, city dwellers enjoy the abundance of locally grown food as well as local street vendors throughout the summer.

Things to Do in Denver's City Park

  • 17th Ave Strip in City Park West - Located just west of the park, you'll found countless noteworthy restaurants, most of which offer cozy patios. Some of our favorites include Vine Street Pub and Olive & Finch, but you can't go wrong with most of the spots along this popular neighborhood strip.
  • Denver Nature & Science Museum - The area in and around City Park is filled with great museums and other attractions, but the Nature & Science Museum tops the list.  Recent renovations, new permanent exhibits, the IMAX, and its ability to bring great temporary exhibits make this museum entertaining for both adults and children.
  • Tattered Cover Bookstore - Originally opened and located in Denver's Cherry Creek neighborhood, the Tattered Cover now has multiple locations and is one of the country's largest independent book stores. The City Park location has been instrumental in attracting other locally owned-stores to the Colfax strip.  Stop by for a quiet reading spot, a quick cup of coffee, and a great selection that's rare for independent book stores.
  • East High School - Located on the south side of the park, this Denver landmark is now home to one of Denver Public School's most diverse high schools.  Opened in 1875, this well-known school is frequently listed as one of America's top public high schools.

Boundaries: The boundaries for City Park are M.L.K. Jr. Blvd. to the North, Colorado Blvd to the East, Colfax to the South and Downing to the West.

Neighborhoods Similar to City Park: Park Hill, Congress Park, Cheesman Park, Capital Hill
